Easy One-Bowl Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, or until well combined.
- Slowly stir in the boiling water until just incorporated. The batter will be thin, but don’t worry, that’s how it’s supposed to be!
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Frosting (Optional):
You can frost this cake with your favorite frosting recipe. Chocolate, chocolate ganache, or vanilla buttercream would all pair well with the rich chocolate flavor.
For a richer chocolate flavor, use strong brewed coffee instead of water.
You can also add ½ cup of chocolate chips to the batter for an extra decadent treat.
If you don’t have buttermilk, you can make your own by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to 1 cup of milk and letting it sit for 5 minutes.
