La Guajira, Colombia — August 27, 2025 — YouTube star MrBeast is using his global influence to bring clean water to some of the world’s most water-stressed regions, including Colombia’s La Guajira, through a massive international campaign called Team Water.

Alongside fellow YouTuber and engineer Mark Rober, MrBeast—real name Jimmy Donaldson—has raised more than $30 million so far. The funds are aimed at providing clean water to 2 million people across multiple continents. Colombia is one of the latest countries to benefit from the campaign, with a focus on indigenous communities in La Guajira, where water scarcity has been a chronic crisis.

A Lifeline for La Guajira

La Guajira, a desert region in northern Colombia, is home to thousands of Wayúu Indigenous families who have long struggled with limited access to safe drinking water. Most residents rely on scarce wells, long treks to rivers, or contaminated sources for their daily needs. The consequences have been severe—rates of malnutrition and waterborne illnesses are among the highest in the country.

Team Water’s initiative is working hand-in-hand with the local public-private partnership Misión La Guajira, which includes organizations like Grupo Aval and Promigas. So far, their combined efforts have brought clean water to more than 13,000 people in 52 Wayúu communities, through the rehabilitation of wells, installation of water purification systems, and creation of new filtration plants.

YouTube Influence Turned Impact

In a video released to his millions of followers, MrBeast highlights one community’s makeshift water pump made from bicycle parts—an ingenious but unsafe system that delivered contaminated water. His team responded by drilling deep wells, installing solar-powered pumps, and building elevated tanks that now deliver clean water directly to taps.

The message of the campaign is simple: “Just $1 can give someone access to clean water for an entire year.” With the support of over 3,000 digital creators and a combined audience of over 3 billion people, Team Water is quickly becoming one of the most successful creator-led charity efforts to date.

More Than Infrastructure

The campaign’s focus isn’t just on building wells—it’s also about long-term sustainability. WaterAid, the main NGO implementing the project in Colombia, is working to train local residents in maintaining and managing water systems to ensure they continue working long after the campaign ends.

This mix of global influence and local action is proving powerful. Children who once had to walk for hours to fetch water can now fill a cup at a nearby faucet. Parents no longer fear the hidden dangers in their only water source. The change is immediate—and profound.

Looking Ahead

MrBeast’s initiative continues to expand, with plans to bring similar projects to parts of Africa, Asia, and Brazil. But the spotlight on La Guajira has already made a lasting impact. In a region too often overlooked, one viral video—and a wave of global support—is helping restore dignity, health, and hope.
