Former film producer Harvey Weinstein, 72, has been admitted to a hospital after being transferred from a prison outside New York City to a facility in Manhattan.
“It appears that he needs a lot of assistance,” stated his attorney. “He is undergoing various tests. His health is very poor, he is a wreck,” said his attorney Arthur Aidala to outlets including the Associated Press.
Heart Problems
Weinstein, convicted of rape, faces health issues including heart problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems. Mentally, according to his lawyer, he remains sharp. The intention is for Weinstein to be returned to Rikers Island prison, an island near LaGuardia Airport.
In 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York for the rape and sexual assault of two actresses. Last week, that verdict was overturned because the court found he had not received a fair trial. However, he remains behind bars as he was also convicted in Los Angeles for rape, receiving a 16-year sentence there.
Weinstein’s health has been a subject of concern, with his attorney highlighting his deteriorating physical condition. Despite legal developments, he remains incarcerated, with the saga of his legal battles continuing to unfold.
