Iraqi TikTok Star Umm Fahad Killed in Baghdad Shooting

Baghdad, Iraq – April 28, 2024 – Popular Iraqi social media personality Ghufran Sawadi, known to her fans as Umm Fahad (Mother of Fahad), was shot dead outside her Baghdad home on Friday evening.

The attack occurred in the Zayouna district of eastern Baghdad. According to reports, CCTV footage captured the incident, showing a lone assailant on a motorcycle approaching a car, believed to be carrying Umm Fahad. The assailant then fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Umm Fahad was known for her vibrant dance videos on TikTok and Instagram, amassing hundreds of thousands of followers. Her death has sent shockwaves through Iraq’s online community and renewed concerns about the safety of social media influencers in the country.

Iraqi authorities have launched an investigation into the killing. A motive for the attack has not been disclosed, and no arrests have been made.

Umm Fahad’s death tragically follows a string of similar attacks against Iraqi online personalities. Noor Alsaffar, another prominent TikToker, was shot dead in September 2023. These incidents highlight the growing problem of violence against women in Iraq, both online and offline.

Tributes have poured in for Umm Fahad on social media, with many users expressing their outrage and grief. The investigation into her death is ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether authorities will be able to apprehend those responsible.
