In a dramatic first game of a doubleheader between the Colorado Rockies and the Seattle Mariners, controversy erupted in the bottom of the ninth inning as a fan interference call took away a potential walk-off home run for the Rockies.

With the game deadlocked at 0–0, Rockies catcher Jacob Stallings crushed a fastball from Mariners reliever Ryne Stanek deep into left field. Seattle outfielder Dylan Moore leaped at the wall in an attempt to make a game-saving catch, but a fan reached out over the fence, obstructing Moore’s play and causing the ball to bounce back onto the field. Initially ruled a double, the play was challenged by the Rockies, who believed Stallings had hit a home run.

Upon review, umpires determined that the fan’s interference had impeded Moore’s ability to make a play, resulting in Stallings being called out to end the inning, much to the dismay of the Rockies and their fans. Despite the contentious call, the Rockies ultimately prevailed in extra innings, securing a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Mariners.

The drama continued into the 10th inning, with Seattle seizing a 1–0 lead before the Rockies rallied back. Thanks to hits from the first two batters and an infield single by third baseman Ryan McMahon, the Rockies managed to score two runs, clinching the win and snapping a six-game losing streak.

Despite the controversy surrounding the fan interference call, the Rockies emerged victorious, securing just their fifth win of the season and providing a much-needed boost for the struggling team. As they look to carry the momentum into the second game of the doubleheader, both teams will be hoping for a smoother contest devoid of any contentious calls or interference.
