Coast Guard Suspends Active Search for Two Men Missing at Sea

The Coast Guard has officially suspended the active search for a vessel containing two individuals reported missing earlier this week. The search operation, coordinated by the Maritime Operations Center (MOC), yielded no results after three days of extensive sweeping.

The two men—identified as one American and one Honduran national—departed from the Dominican Republic on Tuesday afternoon, intending to travel to Aruba. Concerns were raised when the vessel failed to arrive at its destination as scheduled.

The Coast Guard received the initial report of the missing boat on Wednesday night. Due to the late hour and limited visibility, a search and rescue operation could not be safely launched immediately. However, at sunrise the following morning, the Coast Guard deployed a patrol plane to the area.

Using the specific route filed by the vessel, the MOC identified a target search area. The Coast Guard aircraft conducted an intensive search for a total of three days. Additionally, the MOC transmitted NAVTEX and UMIBS messages to alert other vessels in the vicinity, requesting information or sightings. Unfortunately, neither the aerial search nor the maritime broadcasts resulted in any sightings of the boat or the two men.

Consequently, the Coast Guard has made the difficult decision to terminate the active search mission.

Despite ending the dedicated search operation, the Coast Guard confirmed that units will remain extra vigilant during regular patrols over the coming days. Rescue and coordination centers throughout the region have also been alerted to the situation and remain on the lookout for the missing vessel and its crew.
