BOGOTÁ – A joint international police operation has successfully dismantled a human trafficking ring operating between South America and Europe. Authorities confirmed that a primary Dutch human trafficking suspect was arrested in Bogotá this week, alongside his Colombian accomplice.
The suspects are accused of running a sophisticated network that lured Colombian women to the Netherlands under false pretenses, only to force them into sexual exploitation upon arrival.
The Joint Operation
The arrests were the result of a secretive, coordinated effort between the Colombian National Police and Interpol. The officers executed an international “Red Notice” warrant that had been issued by the Netherlands.
Authorities identified the Dutch suspect as Jacob Brett B. He was detained alongside his alleged partner in crime, Laura Castro, a Colombian national. Both are considered the leaders of this transnational criminal organization.
Deceptive Recruitment Tactics
According to investigators, the pair’s modus operandi relied on manipulation. They targeted vulnerable women in Colombia with promises of legitimate employment and a better future in Europe.
However, these promises were entirely false. The recruiters used these fabrications to gain the victims’ trust and secure their agreement to travel.
Exploitation in Amsterdam
Once recruited, the victims began a journey that often took them through routes such as Mexico before finally arriving in Europe.
Upon landing in Amsterdam, the situation changed dramatically for the women. Instead of the promised jobs, they were forced to work as prostitutes to repay alleged debts incurred for their travel costs.
Awaiting Extradition

Following the successful operation, General William Oswaldo Rincón Zambrano, director of the Colombian National Police, issued a strong statement. He emphasized that Colombia “is a country that will not allow criminals to find shelter.”
Both suspects are currently in custody. Authorities expect extradition proceedings to begin shortly, sending Jacob Brett B. and Laura Castro to the Netherlands to face trial for human trafficking.
