Aruba Named Safest Caribbean Island for Travelers by The Telegraph

by | Feb 21, 2024

In a recent article published by The Telegraph UK, the United States issued a travel advisory to its citizens concerning safety when visiting Caribbean islands such as Jamaica and the Bahamas, citing concerning crime statistics in both nations. However, amidst these warnings, Aruba shines as a beacon of safety, being hailed as the safest destination in the Caribbean for travelers.

The distinction comes as a result of Aruba’s remarkably low crime rates, particularly when measured per capita. The island has consistently maintained lower crime figures compared to its Caribbean counterparts, making it an attractive destination for tourists seeking security and peace of mind.

According to statistics from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), a staggering 98% of visitors cited safety as one of the primary reasons for choosing Aruba as their vacation destination. In response to this demand for security, the Tourism Security Patrol Aruba was recently established. Comprised of 15 individuals who have undergone rigorous training in various security protocols, including within the Police Force itself, this team is equipped with state-of-the-art reporting materials, body cameras, flashlights, electric bicycles, and more. Their presence ensures the maintenance of public order in key tourist areas across the island.

Moreover, Aruba’s commitment to border security is evident through the installation of radar systems and strategic border consultations. Collaborations between different judicial departments have facilitated advancements in border security measures, further solidifying Aruba’s reputation as a safe haven for travelers.

In addition to these efforts, the island has embarked on a comprehensive security camera project. This initiative has seen the installation of surveillance cameras in various locations, including popular tourist spots and hotel areas. The impending launch of the Operation Command Center, tasked with monitoring these cameras, marks yet another milestone in Aruba’s ongoing commitment to safety and security.

The recognition bestowed upon Aruba by The Telegraph serves as a testament to the collective dedication of the island’s judicial system and private sector in ensuring the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors alike. As travelers seek destinations where safety is paramount, Aruba stands out as a shining example of hospitality and security in the Caribbean.
