Israel Issues Stark Warning of ‘All-Out War’ with Hezbollah Following Provocative Video

by | Jun 18, 2024

Tel Aviv — Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have reached a critical point, with Israel issuing a stern warning of a potential “all-out war” following the release of a provocative video by Hezbollah. The video, which shows drone footage of Israeli military and civilian sites in the north, has heightened fears of an imminent large-scale conflict.

Israel’s military leadership has made it clear that while war is not their preferred option, they are prepared to take decisive action if necessary. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated, “We do not choose war as our first priority, but we are certainly prepared. We will continue to act wherever Hezbollah is present” (Politico).

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has called for robust military action in response to the ongoing attacks from Hezbollah. During a visit to Kiryat Shmona, Ben Gvir emphasized the need to destroy Hezbollah’s strongholds, declaring, “All Hezbollah strongholds should be burned, they should be destroyed. War!” (The Times of Israel).

The situation has been deteriorating since October, with daily skirmishes along the border resulting in significant casualties. To date, these skirmishes have led to the deaths of 10 Israeli civilians and 14 IDF soldiers, while Hezbollah has reported the loss of 329 members (The Times of Israel) (The Times of Israel).

In response to the escalating conflict, international actors including the UK and the US have been involved in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation. The UK has warned Lebanon of an imminent large-scale Israeli offensive, urging Beirut to make necessary preparations for potential conflict (The Times of Israel). Meanwhile, US special envoy Amos Hochstein has engaged in discussions with Lebanese officials to seek a diplomatic resolution to the hostilities.

Hezbollah’s leadership has also commented on the situation, with deputy head Naim Qassem indicating that while Hezbollah does not seek to widen the conflict, it is prepared to fight if a full-scale war is imposed on it (The Times of Israel).

The escalating tensions underscore the fragile security situation in the region and the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to prevent a full-scale war. With thousands of civilians currently displaced and ongoing hostilities showing no signs of abating, the international community remains watchful, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
