Jomaa Shadi, a displaced resident of Nuseirat, described the devastation: “The halting of the bloodshed is an indescribable feeling. I thank God I survived. But when we returned, we found nothing but ruin and destruction. I cannot describe the scene in words.”

For others, the loss is deeply personal. In Safatawi, a resident mourned the loss of his home, which he had painstakingly built over years. “I don’t see my home; I only see destruction,” he lamented.

Drone footage released by the United Nations revealed the extent of the devastation in Gaza, particularly in areas like Safatawi. Entire neighborhoods have been reduced to rubble, with infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods wiped out. Medical officials in Gaza report over 47,000 Palestinian deaths during the conflict, and nearly the entire population of 2.3 million has been left homeless. The death toll on the Israeli side includes around 400 soldiers.
