Changes to Aruba Online ED-Card Procedure Affecting Non-Resident Students

by | Dec 22, 2024

New Sustainability Fee and Updates to Aruba Online ED-Card for Travelers

The Aruba Department of Immigration and AWSS (Aruba Web Services System) have introduced changes to the Aruba Online ED-Card process, including the implementation of a Sustainability Fee for non-resident travelers. These updates are part of ongoing efforts to improve entry procedures and ensure smoother immigration processes.

What’s New?

As of October 30, 2024, all non-resident travelers, including former Aruban citizens currently studying abroad, are required to pay a Sustainability Fee of USD 20 when completing the Aruba Online ED-Card. This fee is mandatory and must be processed on the official platform edcardaruba.aw before approval is granted.

Refunds for Students

Eligible students—specifically former Aruban citizens currently studying abroad—can apply for a refund of the Sustainability Fee. To do so, send an email to [email protected] with the following:

  • A copy of your approved ED-Card as an attachment
  • The email address used for payment
  • Proof of enrollment, such as a school declaration

The government is also working on a permanent solution to automatically exempt eligible students from this fee in the future.

What is the Aruba Online ED-Card?

The Aruba ED-Card (Embarkation-Disembarkation Card) is a mandatory digital form introduced on December 1, 2015. It is required for all passengers, including infants and children, traveling to Aruba.

This form allows the immigration department to verify all necessary steps for entry have been completed. The application process is web-based and can be completed within the 7 days prior to travel. Travelers are encouraged to print their confirmation upon submission to ensure a seamless experience.

Important Update:
Starting October 30, 2024, the redesigned Aruba Online ED-Card platform will introduce a “qualifier” replacing the former “OK to board” green checkmark. This update aims to simplify the approval process and improve efficiency at Aruba’s air and seaports.
