Dozens of Cars Belonging to Schiphol Travelers Destroyed in Major Fire in Rijsenhout

Rijsenhout, North Holland – A large fire engulfed dozens of vehicles on a parking lot in Rijsenhout, a small village just south of Schiphol Airport. Between forty and fifty cars were reportedly destroyed, all belonging to travelers who had left their vehicles parked while on trips via Schiphol.

The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, prompting local fire services to respond around 3:00 a.m. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, and by approximately 6:45 a.m., they had managed to extinguish most of the blaze. However, efforts to completely douse two electric vehicles on the lot required additional time due to the complexities involved in controlling fires in electric cars.

Eyewitnesses reported a towering wall of flames lighting up the parking lot as the fire took hold, consuming vehicle after vehicle. The parking area, situated near the A4 motorway, is not an official parking facility for Schiphol but is frequently used by holidaymakers and other long-term parkers who fly out from the airport.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Local authorities have not yet determined what sparked the blaze, and no injuries have been reported. This incident has raised concerns about the growing use of unofficial parking lots around Schiphol, which has led to questions about the security and safety standards of such facilities.
