Tyreek Hill Reflects on Traffic Stop, Calls for Officer’s Dismissal

by | Sep 12, 2024

Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill admitted on Wednesday that he could have handled his recent traffic stop better but insisted that one of the officers involved should be fired. The incident occurred near the team’s stadium just hours before Miami’s Week 1 game, with Hill being pulled from his car, handcuffed, and forced onto the ground by police.

Hill expressed regret for not complying immediately by leaving his car window down when instructed. He acknowledged that rolling it back up led to an escalation, but he condemned the officers’ aggressive response. “I could have let down my window in that instant,” Hill said. “But does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me? Absolutely not.”

Body camera footage released by the Miami-Dade Police Department shows the incident escalating after Hill raised his window. One officer dragged him from the car, and Hill was pinned to the ground, despite his repeated claims of a recent knee surgery. Hill was cited for careless driving and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Despite his criticism of the officers’ actions, Hill made it clear that he still respects law enforcement and does not intend to take a knee during games in protest. He also reiterated his future goal of working in law enforcement after his football career. “Right now, what I’m focused on is my job, and that’s to play football,” Hill said.

Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie Daniels has launched an internal investigation, with one officer already placed on administrative duty. Hill, however, made his stance clear, calling for the officer responsible for his treatment to be dismissed from the force. “He’s gotta go,” Hill said, citing the disrespect shown not just to him but to his teammates during the incident.
