Taylor Swift’s Vienna Concerts Cancelled Amidst Terror Threat; Increased Precautions Follow Recent UK Tragedy

by | Aug 7, 2024

Vienna, August 7, 2024 – Austrian authorities announced on Wednesday that three Taylor Swift concerts scheduled in Vienna have been cancelled following the arrest of two suspects linked to an alleged terrorist plot. The concerts, planned for August 8 to 10 at Ernst Happel Stadium, were called off to ensure the safety of attendees, as confirmed by Barracuda Music, the event promoter.

“With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” Barracuda Music stated in a social media post.

Austrian police revealed that a 19-year-old Austrian citizen, identified as an Islamic State sympathizer, was arrested on Wednesday morning in Ternitz, Lower Austria. Another arrest followed in Vienna later that day. Authorities said the suspects had been radicalized online, with the 19-year-old making an oath of allegiance to the current IS leader in early July.

“The two suspects had undertaken concrete preparatory measures for a terrorist attack, and we suspect explosives were stored at the home of the suspect in Ternitz,” police said. Chemical substances were also found at the 19-year-old’s residence and are currently being evaluated.

Authorities believe that events in the Vienna region were the intended targets of the planned attack. In light of these developments, heightened security measures have been implemented to prevent any potential threats.

This cancellation comes on the heels of a recent tragedy in England, where a Taylor Swift-themed dancing and yoga event was marred by a stabbing incident, resulting in the deaths of three young girls. The attack has heightened concerns and prompted increased security measures at Swift’s events globally.

“All tickets for the cancelled shows will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days,” Barracuda Music announced, assuring fans that their safety remains the utmost priority.

The Austrian police continue to investigate the suspects’ activities and the potential risks associated with the materials found. They emphasize their commitment to ensuring public safety amid these unsettling developments.
