Romanian Authorities Raid Andrew Tate’s Home Amid New Trafficking Allegations Involving Minors

by | Aug 22, 2024

Romanian authorities raided the home of controversial social media influencer Andrew Tate on Wednesday as part of a new investigation into allegations of human trafficking and exploitation of minors. The raid, conducted by Romania’s Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), is the latest legal trouble for Tate, who is already awaiting trial on separate charges of human trafficking, rape, and forming a criminal gang.

DIICOT confirmed that four house search warrants were executed in Bucharest and nearby Ilfov County. Although the agency did not name Tate directly, his spokesperson confirmed the raid to media outlets, including Reuters and the Associated Press. The spokesperson noted that Tate’s legal team was present during the search and that the charges under investigation involve suspicions of human trafficking and money laundering, though the specifics of the allegations remain unclear.

The investigation reportedly focuses on a range of serious charges, including the trafficking of minors, sexual intercourse with a minor, influencing statements, forming an organized crime group, and money laundering. DIICOT announced plans to conduct a hearing on the matter but has not provided further details.

In response to the raid, Tate posted on X (formerly Twitter), where he likened his situation to that of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, suggesting that the legal actions against him are part of a broader conspiracy. Tate, his brother Tristan, and two other associates are currently facing trial on separate but related charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. All have denied the allegations.

Tate’s legal issues have drawn significant international attention. The former kickboxer, who holds dual British and American citizenship, was first detained by Romanian authorities in December 2022 and has remained under house arrest since March 2023. Authorities have also seized assets worth $3.9 million from the Tate brothers as part of the ongoing investigation.
