A new poll shows that Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is leading former President Donald Trump in three crucial states for the 2024 election. The New York Times/Siena College survey, published on August 10, indicates that Harris has 50% support in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, while Trump has 46% in each state.
This poll marks a significant moment for Harris, who recently launched her presidential campaign after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race. Biden’s decision to step aside due to concerns about his age and capacity motivated Harris to become the focal point. Her campaign has gained momentum, particularly with the support of key Democratic figures and the selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
Despite this positive trend, Harris faces challenges. The Biden administration’s firm stance on Israel amid the Gaza conflict has sparked criticism, particularly in Michigan, where the large Arab-American community has expressed their dissatisfaction. During a rally in Detroit, Harris faced protesters demanding an end to the war, leading to a violent reaction from Palestinian rights advocates. However, at a subsequent rally in Arizona, Harris addressed the situation in Gaza with more sympathy, emphasizing efforts for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Trump has openly criticized Harris and her campaign. He dismisses Harris and Walz as ineffective, despite Harris’s lead in the polls. The Trump campaign has labeled the Harris-Walz ticket as a disaster for America, attacking Harris’s intelligence and capabilities.
As the race continues to heat up, Harris’s advantage in these critical states could shape the trajectory of the 2024 election, while Trump’s campaign strategy remains aggressive and controversial.
