World leaders have united in condemning the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania, calling it an act of political violence and wishing the former president a swift recovery.

Trump revealed on social media that he was shot in the upper part of his right ear, causing significant bleeding. His campaign confirmed he is recovering well and has been discharged from the hospital, returning to his home in New Jersey. A video showed him disembarking from a plane unaided.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres labeled the attack an “act of political violence,” while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described it as “abhorrent,” emphasizing that such violence threatens democracy. French President Emmanuel Macron called the incident a “tragedy for our democracies,” expressing France’s solidarity with the American people.

EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell and other global leaders also voiced their condemnation. US President Joe Biden, Trump’s opponent in the upcoming election, condemned political violence, expressing relief that Trump is safe and urging national unity against such acts. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values.

In Moscow, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova used the incident to criticize US policies, while Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the attack, calling political violence unacceptable. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his shock, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who recently met Trump, offered his prayers.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also wished Trump a speedy recovery and stressed the need for dialogue over violence in politics. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador condemned the attack, with López Obrador calling it “irrational and inhumane.”

Argentina’s President Javier Milei, a vocal supporter of Trump, described the attack as a “cowardly assassination attempt” and offered his solidarity.

The FBI has named Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, as the individual involved in the shooting. The investigation continues as global leaders stand firm against political violence, reaffirming their commitment to democratic principles.
