Aruba, May 29, 2024 – Respecting nature and our beaches has always been a pillar of Chill and Balashi Brewery’s sustainable efforts. This commitment was recently put to the test when a shoco owl’s nest was discovered on the grounds of the Bushiri Event Arena, the originally planned venue for the Chill-sponsored Flip Flop Festival set to take place this weekend.
Upon discovering the nest during stage setup, organizers immediately consulted with the Aruba Conservation Foundation for a solution that would best protect this beloved local owl species. The shoco owl, a cherished part of Aruba’s wildlife, requires careful protection due to its vulnerable status.
After a week of successful negotiations and consultations, Chill Beer and Elite Empire Entertainment are pleased to announce that the festival will be moved to the Harbor Arena. The nest at Bushiri has been officially marked and roped off to ensure the ongoing protection of the owl family.
During a meeting today with the relevant authorities, it was emphasized that while Bushiri Beach remains the designated site for beach events like tennis and music festivals, the need to safeguard the owl’s habitat necessitated this change. Elite Empire Entertainment and Chill Beer are committed to following all feasible measures to protect nature while balancing the logistical, practical, and financial challenges involved in relocating the event.
Elite Empire Entertainment and Chill Beer would like to thank the public for their understanding and support as they strive to balance the excitement of the Flip Flop Festival with their responsibility to protect the environment.
