Nicki Minaj Arrested at Schiphol (Amsterdam) for Possession of Soft Drugs

by | May 25, 2024

Rapper and singer Nicki Minaj was arrested at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs. Footage from an Instagram livestream, made by Minaj herself, shows her arguing with a military police officer during her arrest. In the video, Minaj denies having drugs while the officer asks her to get into a police van. Minaj demands a lawyer and asks where she is being taken, to which the officer responds that she is going to the police station. These images were also shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. Additionally, Minaj shared a video on Instagram where she talks about her luggage being inspected. “They tried to prevent me from doing my shows. They took my bags. Now they say they are waiting for customs,” she wrote. A post on X appears to confirm that drugs were found in her luggage.

Delay at Amsterdam Concert

Earlier this week, Nicki Minaj performed in Amsterdam, where her show started over 2.5 hours late. The show, scheduled to begin at 8:15 PM, finally started at 10:45 PM. Many attendees complained on social media about the long wait, and some had to leave early to get home in time. This is not the first time Minaj has arrived late for a performance; fans in other countries have also often had to wait for hours.

Manchester Concert Canceled

A performance by Minaj was scheduled for Saturday night in Manchester, for which she was supposed to fly by private jet. However, due to her arrest at Schiphol, she could not arrive in time, and the concert was canceled. Minaj apologized via social media for the missed concert.

Upon arrival in Manchester, she thanked her fans for their support following her arrest. The rapper was held for several hours and released around 10:00 PM after paying a fine of 350 euros. Soft drugs were found in her luggage, which someone from her entourage claimed were his pre-rolled joints. The Public Prosecutor could not specify the exact amount of drugs Minaj had, but stated that it was “less than 100 grams,” which was enough for a fine.

Reactions and Consequences

Minaj reported that the Co-op Live venue in Manchester was willing to extend her concert from 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM, but this ultimately did not solve the issue. The concert has been rescheduled to another date, and Minaj promises her fans an extra bonus as compensation.

The singer was furious about her arrest and stated that the further handling of the case will be left to her “lawyers and God.”

Career and Fame

Nicki Minaj released her debut album in 2010 and has since become a globally recognized artist. She is known for hits such as “Starships,” “Pound the Alarm,” and “Swalla.” Despite her popularity, Minaj has often faced issues with punctuality at her performances, causing frustration among her fans.

The arrest at Schiphol and the resulting cancellation of the concert in Manchester add a new layer to the complex relationship between Minaj and her fans. It remains unclear how these incidents will affect her future performances and her image.
