Joe Rogan Expresses Concerns Over Mike Tyson-Jake Paul Fight

by | May 4, 2024

Ahead of the highly anticipated clash between boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTube personality-turned-boxer Jake Paul, Joe Rogan has voiced apprehensions about the potential risks involved, particularly for Tyson.

Scheduled for July 20, the bout has sparked controversy due to the significant age gap between the two fighters, with Tyson, 57, being 31 years older than Paul.

During a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast, Rogan expressed concerns about the possibility of Tyson suffering serious consequences, including the worst-case scenario of his death.

Acknowledging that the fight’s approval is not guaranteed and could be contingent on public protest, Rogan highlighted the potential dangers Tyson faces due to his age.

Despite these concerns, Rogan did not dismiss the possibility of Tyson delivering a knockout blow to Paul, given his formidable power even in his advancing years.

While recognizing Tyson’s physical decline, Rogan pointed out that the former heavyweight champion still possesses considerable punching power, which could pose a significant challenge for Paul.

Speculation had arisen that the fight might be staged as an exhibition match with both fighters wearing headgear. However, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation decided to sanction the bout as a professional fight, albeit with certain conditions such as eight two-minute rounds.

Both Tyson and Paul expressed their desire for a sanctioned professional fight with a definitive outcome. Paul’s manager, Nikisa Bidarian, expressed gratitude for the efforts to satisfy the regulatory requirements and secure the bout’s sanctioning.

Tyson, a fan favorite, returned to the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., demonstrating a diminished version of his once-dominant self. Paul, on the other hand, has gained attention in the boxing world with his recent knockout victory over Ryan Bourland in December 2023.

As anticipation builds for the Tyson-Paul showdown, concerns over the health and safety of the fighters, particularly Tyson, remain a focal point of discussion within the boxing community.
