Tiger Woods Believes He Can Win Masters Again Despite Daily Pain

by | Apr 11, 2024

Tiger Woods remains optimistic about his chances of securing a sixth Masters title this week, despite battling persistent pain. The American golf legend, who acknowledges the physical challenges he faces, believes that everything needs to align perfectly for him to triumph once more.

Speaking ahead of the Masters in Augusta, the first major tournament of the year, Woods expressed confidence in his ability to secure victory. However, he emphasized the importance of all elements falling into place for success to be within reach.

The 48-year-old last competed in February at the Genesis International in Los Angeles but was forced to withdraw after six holes on the second day due to illness. His last complete tournament was at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas at the end of last year, where he returned to competitive golf following a lengthy absence due to a severe leg injury sustained in a car accident in 2021.

Despite undergoing surgeries and rehabilitation, Woods continues to contend with pain. While his ankle no longer troubles him, other areas of his body, including his back and knee, bear the brunt of the strain, especially during the extensive walking required at Augusta National Golf Club, where the Masters is held.

Acknowledging the physical toll of the tournament, Woods admitted to experiencing discomfort on a daily basis. Despite this, he remains undeterred, focusing on the favorable weather forecast for this year’s event compared to the challenging conditions of the previous edition.

Having won the Masters on five previous occasions in 1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2019, Woods is no stranger to success at Augusta. His victory in 2019 marked a remarkable comeback after an eleven-year drought in major tournament wins.

As Woods prepares to tee off in the 88th edition of the Masters, his determination to overcome adversity and compete at the highest level serves as a testament to his resilience and enduring legacy in the world of golf.
