Meteorological Office Dispels Cloud Seeding Misinformation Amid Heavy Rains.

by | Apr 17, 2024

Amid heavy rains in the UAE, the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has clarified that no cloud seeding operations were conducted during the period of unstable weather. Dr. Habib Ahmed, a senior meteorologist at the NCM, emphasized that misinformation suggesting otherwise should not be believed.

According to Dr. Ahmed, the NCM closely monitored the weather situation in the region, particularly in neighboring Saudi Arabia and Oman. The center issued alerts on April 11, warning of unstable weather conditions, including rainfall, strong winds, dust storms, thunderstorms, and hail across the country.

The weather disturbance originated from deep low-pressure systems in the Southwest and Oman, combined with humid air from the Arabian Sea moving towards the UAE and Oman. This convergence resulted in heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, driven by extremely strong winds and downdrafts.

The NCM’s analysis indicated that rain-bearing clouds from western regions of the country would spread across the UAE, causing rainfall of varying intensities. The unstable weather persisted for several days, with two significant waves of moisture-laden clouds moving over the UAE, leading to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, the meteorological expert stated that the weather is expected to stabilize in the coming days, with a possibility of cloudy conditions around Al Ain. However, the overall weather situation is anticipated to improve, providing relief from the recent spell of heavy rains.

Dr. Ahmed urged the public to avoid falling for fake news and misinformation, emphasizing the importance of relying on credible sources for weather updates and information. The NCM remains vigilant in monitoring weather patterns and issuing timely alerts to ensure public safety and preparedness in the face of changing weather conditions.

As the UAE navigates through the aftermath of heavy rains, the NCM’s clarification serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate information and preparedness in dealing with natural phenomena.
