ATLANTA, GA – April 1, 2024 – A brazen attempt to breach security at the Atlanta FBI field office today resulted in a man’s arrest and a damaged gate. Authorities are still piecing together the motive behind the incident.
Just after noon, a male suspect, yet to be identified, attempted to enter the FBI facility located on Flowers Road. According to witnesses, the suspect tailed an authorized vehicle closely behind in an apparent attempt to gain access through the security gate. However, his plan went awry when he failed to maneuver his car through the gate in time, causing a collision.
Thankfully, the crash resulted in no injuries. FBI agents on the scene reacted swiftly, apprehending the suspect and securing the area. The DeKalb County Police Department has since taken over the investigation, with FBI officials offering their full cooperation.
“This was a serious incident, and we are grateful for the swift response by our agents,” said Pete Ellis, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta FBI Field Office. “The safety of our personnel and the public remains our top priority.”
Investigators are currently examining the suspect’s vehicle, following standard protocol for such incidents. Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s identity or any potential charges he may face. However, reports suggest the FBI is considering both state and federal charges.
The attempted breach comes as a surprise to many in Atlanta. The FBI has not released any information regarding potential threats leading up to the incident. Local law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information related to the suspect or his motives to come forward.
