Aruba takes preventive measures to avoid Dengue outbreak

by | Apr 4, 2024

RECENTLY, the Ministry of Tourism and Public Health of Aruba has taken note of the increase in Dengue cases in Curaçao, where unfortunately three deaths have already been reported. To prevent and be proactive, Minister Oduber has instructed the Yellow Fever and Mosquito Control (YFMC) to intensify preventive measures, considering the growing number of cases in Aruba.

Although there is currently no Dengue outbreak in Aruba, it is crucial for us to do everything possible to prevent it. For this reason, the Ministry of Health is calling on the community to join forces and combat mosquito breeding grounds.

The Ministry of Tourism and Public Health of Aruba, along with the Department of Public Health (DVG), continues to closely monitor the situation and will take additional measures if necessary. Full cooperation of the community is requested to prevent a Dengue outbreak in Aruba.

It is essential to follow the preventive measures provided by the authorities:

  • Remove or cover all objects that can collect water, such as buckets, tires, and flowerpots.
  • Inspect all areas inside and outside of homes that may collect water and could become mosquito breeding grounds.
  • Protect yourself against mosquito bites by wearing long-sleeved clothing and long pants, using insect repellent, and installing mosquito nets indoors, in bedrooms, and in all areas frequented regularly with mosquito-killing products.

The public is advised to remain vigilant for Dengue symptoms and, if there is any suspicion of infection, to consult their family doctor immediately.

For more information on Dengue and preventive measures, you can visit the Facebook and Instagram pages of DVG Aruba.
