Heat Wave Warning Issued for Aruba During Camping Season

by | Mar 28, 2024

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – Arubians are being urged to take caution while enjoying the traditional Lent camping season as the island swelters under an intense heat wave.

While camping on the beach is a cherished cultural experience that connects residents with nature, the Aruba Welfare Foundation (AWEMainta) is highlighting the health risks posed by the extreme temperatures, particularly for elderly residents and young children.

AWEMainta emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. They also recommend using sunscreen regularly to prevent sunburn, especially during peak sun hours between 10 am and 3 pm.

“During these hot days, it’s crucial to seek shade and avoid prolonged direct sunlight, especially for vulnerable groups like our elders and young ones,” advised AWEMainta.

The organization also reminds everyone to be responsible citizens and prioritize public order. This includes consuming alcohol responsibly and keeping the beaches clean to protect Aruba’s beautiful environment and cultural heritage.

“With a focus on safety and well-being, AWEMainta wishes everyone a happy and enjoyable camping experience,” the organization concluded. “Let’s celebrate our traditions while caring for our island and each other.”
