China is intensifying its preparedness measures for a potential global spread of a theoretical “Disease X,” according to Wang Heshen, head of the country’s National Disease Control and Prevention Administration. He stated that it is still possible to prevent a pandemic and called on the global community to help achieve this.
However, he concluded that it may be difficult to prevent the emergence of “Disease X,” a resulting pandemic which can be prevented and countered. China is relying on its experience in the prevention and control of COVID-19, actively participating in global health management and developing cooperation with international organizations and other countries.
The increasing risk of a pandemic is a cause for global concern due to its deadly nature and the uncertainty of its emergence. The prevention and response to global pandemics require joint efforts from the international community.
Previously, the World Economic Forum in Davos discussed the risks associated with an unknown “Disease X” that could cause more deaths than the Coronavirus pandemic. The World Health Organization has warned that “Disease X” could be a pathogen capable of causing a global pandemic, including deadly viruses such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) or Ebola.
