Aruba International Half Marathon Gears Up for 38th Edition

by | Mar 7, 2024

Aruba is abuzz with excitement as the 38th edition of the Aruba International Half Marathon, organized by IBISA, approaches this Sunday, March 10th. Runners from diverse backgrounds and skill levels are gearing up to tackle the 21KM route, starting from Joe Laveist Sport Park in San Nicolas and finishing at the Alhambra Shopping Center.

This prestigious event, the second oldest race in Aruba, only surpassed by the Harry Janssen Boulevard Loop, now celebrating its 62nd edition, is renowned for attracting participants of all ages and abilities. What began as an elite and active runner-focused event has evolved over time to welcome relay teams of four covering 5.25KM each, as well as duo teams covering 10.5KM each. This inclusive approach has seen a surge in participation, allowing even more individuals to engage in this thrilling event.

Preparation for a half marathon is no small feat, requiring months of mental and physical training. Runners must commit to a rigorous schedule, often training 3 to 6 times a week. While traditional training methods prevail, Aruba offers a range of running clubs catering to different skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans.

Beyond physical preparation, diet and rest play pivotal roles in ensuring peak performance on race day. Runners are advised to maintain a balanced diet and adequate rest, especially in the final days leading up to the event.

As the anticipation builds, runners are reminded of the importance of mental fortitude. The night before the race can be likened to the eve of a significant event, with nerves running high. Sticking to routine and staying focused on the goal is paramount.

Come race day, the community rallies behind the runners, showing support for their dedication and commitment. Whether aiming for a podium finish, a personal best, or simply enjoying the experience, each participant embodies the spirit of determination and resilience.

The Aruba International Half Marathon epitomizes the ethos of unity and perseverance, with every step taken representing a stride towards personal achievement. As participants lace up their running shoes and spectators gather to cheer them on, the island of Aruba prepares to witness yet another thrilling chapter in its rich sporting history.
