Apple’s Long-Awaited OLED iPad Pro and Bigger iPad Air Expected in May

by | Mar 30, 2024

Apple fans looking for a refresh to the iPad lineup won’t have to wait much longer. According to tech insider Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is gearing up for a May launch of both a new iPad Pro featuring a cutting-edge OLED display and a larger iPad Air with a new size option.

The new iPad Pro has been a hot topic in the rumor mill for months, with whispers of a switch to OLED technology for richer colors and deeper blacks. This new display is expected to be paired with the powerful M3 chip, already found in several of Apple’s latest Macs.

The iPad Air is also getting a rumored upgrade, with a new 12.9-inch size option joining the existing 10.9-inch model. This would give users seeking a larger iPad Air experience a new choice without needing to jump to the Pro level.

Gurman’s report also suggests an update to the Magic Keyboard accessory for the iPad Pro. This could include a larger trackpad for a more desktop-like feel.

The delay from a previously anticipated March/April release is speculated to be due to software finalization. This hints at a potential major update to iPadOS, possibly unveiled at Apple’s upcoming WWDC conference in June. While details are scarce, the wait for both the new hardware and software advancements for iPad users seems to be nearing its end.
