Golf Pro Anthony Kim Returns to the Greens After 12-Year Hiatus

by | Feb 26, 2024

After a twelve-year absence from the professional golf circuit, Anthony Kim, once hailed as a breakthrough star on the PGA Tour, is set to return to Saudi Arabia next week. The 38-year-old American, who vanished from the sport due to a series of injuries between 2010 and 2012, will mark his comeback with an appearance at an event hosted by LIV Golf.

Kim’s reemergence comes as he joins the 2024 LIV Golf season as a wildcard entrant, a move that has reignited excitement among fans and players alike. “The golf world has missed you,” expressed LIV commissioner Greg Norman, echoing sentiments shared by many within the sport.

Reports suggest that Kim’s return required him to forgo a substantial insurance policy payout of $10 million, underscoring his dedication to reclaiming his status in professional golf. Norman, speaking on behalf of LIV Golf, emphasized Kim’s remarkable talent, expressing pride in offering him the platform to reignite his career. “Welcome back and to the LIV Golf family, mate,” Norman remarked, encapsulating the sentiment of many eagerly anticipating Kim’s return.

With three PGA Tour victories under his belt, Kim is poised to compete for a significant £15.7 million prize fund in Jeddah on March 1. His last competitive outing dates back to the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship, where he withdrew during the first round, marking the end of an era for the talented golfer.

In 2008, Kim made waves by becoming the first American under 25 since Tiger Woods to clinch two PGA Tour events in a single year. Additionally, his pivotal role in the United States’ triumphant 2008 Ryder Cup campaign further solidified his status as a rising star in the golfing world.

As Anthony Kim prepares to tee off once again, fans eagerly await witnessing the resurgence of a prodigious talent, hopeful for a new chapter in his storied career.
